THURSDAY 29TH MARCH 2007
We spent Thursday morning (yesterday) by the pool, it is sooo hot! Feeling that we may be missing out on some of the cultural highlights of Bangkok we headed over to Patt Phong last night and you'll soon start to realise why the Activity Category of this blog is 'Natural Wonders'!
The taxi driver dropped us off on a main road. In Patt Phong there are two main roads, one mainly restaurants and shops, the other is where the go-go bars are and the famous shows take place! We seemed to be on the road with the shops so took a short cut down a very busy side street. A few metres down the street we were accosted by between 30 and 50 thai men trying to drag us into their bars to watch the male shows, 'Boys . . .Men . . .we give you what you want!' For the first time ever this actually scared the living daylights out of us so we literally made a run for it until we came out on a main road the other end. We wandered round for a bit and were rescued by a tuk tuk driver who said he would take us to a good ping-pong show (not his exact words and we can't even tell you the actions he was doing to describe what the show involved). When in Rome (or Bangkok) . . . After the death-by-tuk-tuk journey we were taken to a warehouse in some backstreet, delivered to the 'waiting room', bartered our way in and, beers in hand, took our seats (2nd row back) for the show. As you all know, we aren't easily shocked but holy sh!t . . ping pong balls, bunting, ribbons, blowing birthday candles out, writing 'Welcome to Thailand', smoking cigarettes and razor blades (ouch!) . . . and loads more which we can't really write about on this blog, we'll tell you about when we get back . . it was an eye-opener!
