Next stop on our travels was Taupo, the previous day however Jez had put his name down for the bungee jump and figured that there was still room to back out as there had been no payment, however as we were about to get on the bus he was told that he had been booked in for the bungy jump over the river (NZ's highest water touch bungy jump) and was being picked up from the hostel at 4.
This led to a very nervous drive through to taupo unsure whether to do the jump or not. Arriving in Taupo at 3 meant that left to an hour for checking into the hostel and then preparing for the jump. While waiting for the bus Jez saw Nic Langman (his mate from Windermere) briefly before getting the bus which was a very long 15 minutes late.
Once at the bungy jump, which was relatively quiet, Harriet had to make her way down to the viewing point to watch. Once on the edge the nerves kicked in a little and and Harriet had to start recording again 5 or 6 times as the video would have been too long such was the length of time it took for jez to make the jump. The jump was rather uneventful, even though Jez had said that he wanted to touch the water, the fact that he stepped off feet first rather than falling head first meant that he didnt actually get anywhere near the water, unlike the girl behind who was on the same bus somehow managed to get completely dunked and lose her top in the process leaving her dangling upside down in just her bra. Harriet then being the good girlfriend that she is made sure that there was a beer waiting by the time jez had got back to the top.
After getting a lift back to the hostel it was time to chillout for a bit including a walk down to the lake it was time to meet Nic in the Irish bar opposite where we could go for a quiet couple and watch Murray play Federer in the final, however in true Jez style a couple included and a couple of shots of whisky and honey, it was only about two hours after that we realised that we werent out for a couple, and a big night followed, finsihing in McDonalds at about 5 in the morning.
Due to the previous nights antics the following day which was a free day in Taupo was very uneventful, a bit of sunbathing in the park and a nice chilled walk by the lake, this was the first day in a while that we had not been on the bus, so it was nice to just have a proper relax, at least until the rain started. The evening that followed was a nice pub quiz in the hostel bar which involved drinking pints of water (not beer) and bar the two pitchers which were won during the pub quiz which were shared between five, it was a very unalcoholic evening.
