So i have made it safely to New Zealand after a rather uncomfortable night in Sydney airport.
When i arrived in Auckland at 5pm the next day i was rather tired but decided to go for a little explore with my new found friend Patrick. We decided to go to K Road which is meant to be the 'cool' road of Auckland. It is like boho meets the red light district. And after a prostitute on a corner squared up to me like she was going to kill me we decided to call it a night haha.
I enjoyed my few days in Auckland but you really wouldnt need anymore time there much like most citys their all the same pretty much. I explored the museam with Jess which is definately worth a look in saw some cool Maori culture and some cool/scary stuff about the active volcanos in New Zealand:S. Also grabbed some drinks with Jess and braved K Road once again and went to a Sheesha bar where we met even more dodgey characters we the bailed to the golden gates of Mcdonlds.
On Monday i hopped on the Kiwi Experience bus, after having to get a taxi to the office because the driver forgot to pick me up :/. Our first stop was Mercury Bay which was a sleepy little town. In the day we had walked down to Cathedral Cove which was a bit of a trek but worth it for the beautiful views out to lots of little islands.
Next up was Rotorua famous for being the sulphur smelling town. Every where you look there are geyser's which have popped up over many years these are little or sometimes big pools of boiling water or mud (you can see one in the photo) It is very cool to see and there is loads of smoke rising up into the air but my god the smell and how people are aloud to live there i have no idea surely its dangerous because its sulphur?? Also went and had a look at some nice gardens and an old victorian house built for queen victoria when she came to visit.
In the evening i went to a Maori experience night which was amazing! Probably one of the best things i have done so far. Our driver chose a 'cheif' for our evening, the cheif then had to stand at the gate whilst the maori warriors did dances to try and scare him away and they were scary! They then put a leaf on the floor to show they wanted to be friends and to welcome us into their villiage our cheif quickly except the leaf and we all walked in. The villiage was set out how a traditional Maori villiage would be. With little houses and huts all meant for different purposes. We walked around and watched displays of different games and training for the men for battle. One of the Maori men brought round his spear he told one girl to feel it but she said 'no you are not aloud' (it turned out later she was brought up by a Maori family and knew these things) next he asked me and i was like 'yeah cool' as soon as i went near it he screamed to scare me off was rather funny and scary :S.
We then went to watch the dance and sing traditional entertainment and we then watch the men do the haka (the dance they do before an international rugbey match to scare the oponants) was amazing to see! They all seem to be blessed with great singing voices and the ability to dance.
After that we went for a traditional hangi which is a Moari feast which is cooked on hot rocks. It was absoutly amazing and after only eating Pasta and 2 minute noodles for about 2 months i literally sweaped the table! And i had minted lamb my favourite:):):)!
Will finish later...
