After a few adjustments to emails I hope everyone is now receiving the blog and photos.
Buenos Aires just a vibrant and exciting city you feel that the place is growing - there are smart new developments and old buildings of importance are being refurbished. Although there are lots of political and financial problems it has a totally different feel to Rio. On arrival at the airport there was more security and it felt more 21st Century - with photo ID and finger print, a stark constrast to the arrival lounge at Rio.
We stayed in a B+B in BA, it didn't compare to lovely hotel we stayed in in Rio which served amazing breakfast, but the B+B was run by an eccentric, but helpful Brazilian, who gave us excellent tips on where to go.
I had always wanted to see live spontaneous 'Tango' - the thought of passionate, fiery, beautiful dancers conjured up an image in my mind that I longed to see. Unfortunately, the 'show ' we went to see did not fulfil the image- it was 'quite staged' and rather dated with an aged singer who thought he was much better than he was. I'll leave it there!
Boca is a brightly painted area near the Boca stadium. It really is meant for tourists, but worth a visit. Brightly coloured 3 D murals of characters, look down on passers by, it creates an very amusing scene along the street. Jeff described the area as an Argentian Camden market. There was lots of tango - rather more pleasing on the eye than the 'show!!'
Under the hot hazy, blue skies of Buenos Aires we saw so much - from the absolutely massive cementry where Eva Peron is, to the occupulent high class shopping areas - where I can only look, as luggage allowance seriously kerbs any desires to make purchases.
If you take recommendations food is good. We went to a microbrewery, it was so busy and had a great vibe. The beer and food was scrumptious. In Argentina, once you have had' Siesta' you generally eat at 10.00 pm - a whole new world! In our previous life, Mon to Thursday, meant bed and work next morning! How things have changed.
As part of this adventure it really is all about the people we meet and how we open our minds to new experiences. While we were in this pub, a man caught my attention, he was absolutely covered in tatoos - I know !!! A red and green snake slithered up his neck and all over his head ; although I tried advert my gaze, our eyes met. I was slightly embarrassed as I think I must have been staring. Instead I was totally surprised, he spoke perfect english, which very few people do in Argentina. We talked to us for quite some time about 'Guiness' and top tips on places to visit.
Another treat was the son of the B+B, Matthias, he spoke good english and gave us a fabulous insight into life through the eyes of the young. He was studying engineering at university and had a great affinity with Jeff, who shared a 'special brew' with him that was good for the mind!!!
The flight to Bariloche was effcient. The landing dramatic. The airport rather desolate. In true Argentinan fashion, everyone clapped and cheered when the plane landed.
Our appartment is perfect and has wonderful views of Nahuel Huapi Lake,. Bariloche is quaint and full of tourists shops, it caters for hot summers and skiing in the winter. There are lots of sports shops and chocolate shops, which are huge. It's big business, but for us it is far too hot for chocolate!!
We went to LLao, LLao today, it's in the National Park -the views were spectacular. The air and water was so clean and there was this aroma of lavender and wild flowers, which was so beautiful. It was surrounded by the snow capped mountains glistening in the clear blue sky. It was a perfect moment.
We are off on bike ride tomorrow. Hope all is well with you all.
