Hello all.
Since I last contacted we have been relatively busy. Firstly whilst in Granada we chilled out with our friends that we made on the Corn Islands who ended up leaving the day before we did, which was sad after a stonking 2 weeks with them!! We had a roam around Granada and it was nice to be back in a colonial city. Granada is very like Antigua, just more spaced out!! We got some good photos of the many churches dotted around the city. One evening we decided to have a crack at a local poker tournament, which turned out to be rubbish as we both ended up losing horrifically.
Around an hour outside Granada was a crater lake called Laguna de Apoyo. We got there by means of bus and hitch-hiking, which cost us only 10 cordoba (33p) and spent the day there chilling out and swimming in the crystal clear lake water. After a few hours of lazing around we made the return journey back, again a mixture of bus and hitch-hiking, which cost us 9 cordoba (less than 33p), so we managed to do 2 hours of travelling and had a day out for around 66p!! B a rgin!!!
We are currently on Isla de Ometepe, an island made by two volcanoes (Volcan Concepcion and Volcan Maderas) in the middle of Lago de Nicaragua. We have been here for 3 days now and the highlights were being handed a toilet roll by the owner with a scorpion on it (which could have turned out to be rather uncomfortable!!) and managing to hike up Volcan Maderas, which turned out to be a tough climb, with a mixture of walking and climbing up tree roots and abseiling back down. Was very good fun although the weather was poor and at the top we were completely encased in cloud and therefore there were no vistas!!
We have spent today just lazing around and watching the many football games being shown on the TV. Tomorrow we plan to head to Costa Rica, so will update with more news as and when stuff happens.
Hasta Luego
Simon and Howard
