Day One
Early start to catch the 6am flight to Melbourne. 30 hours, several thousand kilometres later and no sleep we arrived in Washington DC at 10pm the same day. A short taxi trip to our hotel and then to bed. The hotel is located in a quiet area called Foggy Bottom (insert school boy giggle) within walking distance of the Metro. The room is more like a small apartment - very nice.
Day Two
After a good night sleep and breakfast, we headed out for the day. We had planned to use the Metro to get around but started walking and kept on seeing landmarks. So much to see: The White House (don't think the Obamas were home), White House Visitor Centre (really interesting look at life in the White House), Washington Monument (the tall column), National World War 2 Monument, WW1 Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial (incredible), Reflection Pool (as seen is Forrest Gump) and the Lincoln Memorial (President Lincoln sitting on his throne; simply huge).
Late afternoon, we take the Metro to Tyson's Corner Centre which is a new shopping centre and apartment complex. It's like an upmarket Marion with restaurants-not the place for men unless shopping for clothes interests you. Had a nice meal at a German Bierhaus.
Back to the hotel, and bed. Aching feet and really tired.
