Day Twenty Seven
Last full day in Vancouver, and it's a beautiful day. We thought we should visit Stanley Park because if got home and hadn't everyone would ask if saw it. Jumped aboard a bus, and 15 minutes later we were at the park's entrance.
The park is massive and covers more than 400 hectares: it's bigger than Central Park in New York but smaller than the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. There's a mixture of forest, lawns, sporting fields, trails and beaches. We (and Karen's knee) decided to take it slow and just follow a couple of the walking trails. We were told that the park is home to black bears, cougars (the animal, not the over40 female type-although we've seen a few of them in our journey), and coyotes. Although we didn't see any, there were a couple of signs warning people to be careful because coyotes had been seen in the area. Couldn't imagine that happening in Belair National Park. One animal that did surprise was a seagull: they're about the size of a chicken with a big wing spread.
We found a restaurant that was open (most of the cafes etc have closed for the start of winter) and rewarded ourselves with a cool libation before heading back on the bus.
It's Sunday and there's not much open so we head back to the hotel. We felt like a good steak and red and found a place around the corner called the Keg Steakhouse which an upmarket but casual restaurant chain in Vancouver. A couple of nice slabs of steak were served which went nicely with a bottle of California cabsav. Desert followed but we really didn't need it. Luckily we're only a 5minute waddle from the hotel.
