Day 3 - Perth - 21 April 2017
After our usual breakfast of bread and coffee, we set off for the Core Cider House at 9am. It was a spontaneous decision by Emma as she suddenly had the idea of fruit picking and after consulting Google, we decided on the Core Cider House. It was about 50 minutes ride from our apartment. There was an outdoor playground available and the kids were so drawn to it that I bet they didn't mind not doing the fruit picking.
The day was lovely and the weather was perfect for fruit picking. Apples and pears were the fruits that were available for picking. Even the folks were excited. The adults' role was to search for the good ones on the trees and the kids' job was to pick them. It was a wonderful experience, surveying the orchards, standing on a plastic crate to pick those apples or pears that were beyond our reach. How to best enjoy the fruits of our labour? Easy. To eat them. The apples were sweet and tasty and upon our first bite, almost all of us nodded in acknowledgement to this fact. Happy as kids, we left the Core Cider House at about 11am.
Black Swan was our lunch destination. I read from reviews that the place was fantastic but I was a little disappointed - not by its food but by its ambience. The aircon was not turned on and flies were like buzzing around our food that fanning them away and eating were almost done simultaneously. However, it had a pretty great view of its vineyard that staring at it seemed to be quite the consolation. After lunch, my parents and I did a little wine tasting. I bought a bottle of white wine and left the restaurant at about 2pm.
We went back to our apartment at about 230pm. The plan was to get the kids to nap at least for a couple of hours before heading out again. However, not barely 40 minutes, everyone got up and I learnt from Emma that the kids had not slept a wink at all throughout this period. Ok, forcing the issue was no use and so, after having a cup of coffee, we drove out to Cottesloe beach at about 4pm.
Based on Emma's colleague, there were beautiful sculptures along Cottesloe beach. When we arrived, we asked around and one guy told us that the Sculpture exhibition was over. And Google had also confirmed that the exhibition was held in March 2017. Haha! We were one month late.
Nonetheless, it wasn't a wasted trip. We had a great time with Le as we took off our shoes, walked at the sandy beach and allowed the ebb of the receding waves to touch our feet. Sometimes, we ran away from the bigger waves and it was just a fun time anticipating its rhythm. Yu was kinda afraid of the waves. He stood at a safe distance that ensured that his feet would be kept dry.
The best takeaway was the sunset view. It never gets old looking at it. I was glad that I managed to take the last 29 seconds of it before it disappeared below the horizon. Yes, patience pays off indeed.
We ended our day with a nice dinner at the Good Fortune Roast Duck House, located at Northbridge. We ordered a plate of roast duck and another plate of vegetable, with some rice and noodle. That was it - the perfect dinner!
We got back to our apartment at about 8pm and chilled out for a while. And then, at about 9pm, we prepared the kids for bed.
