Day 8 (Day 3 in London):
After our breakfast at the hotel, we took the tube to Notting Hill Gate station. The post office was nearby and finally, we received Emma's driving licence which Carmen had gladly helped to arrange for it to be sent over to London.
Then, we walked into Kensington park to our first designated spot, the Kensington palace. It was a self-guided tour as we walked around the palace and read the given booklet on our own. Basically, it was a place where princesses used to stay and their respective adornments.
Next, unfortunately, Royal Albert Hall was closed for tour. So, we skipped it. Otherwise, we might be able to catch some technical preparations for the evening shows of the day.
Nearby Royal Albert Hall, is the Royal College of music. Adjacent to it was Museum of instruments. It housed some hundreds of musical instruments. There were two floors but the second floor wasn't accessible due to their staff doing maintenance work. So, we only saw some of the woodwind instruments and brass instruments, but not the stringed instruments.
We stopped by Natural History museum, mainly to get gifts for the children. And also, stomach was growling - a sign for lunch. The food was not bad and after lunch, we walked to Hyde park towards Wellington Arch. We thought there was much to see at Wellington Arch but from afar, it didn't seem to intrigue us. Without wasting much time, we adjourned to our next venue - Shakespeare Globe theatre.
It was an open air theatre. As it was winter season, there isn't any scheduled play to be performed during this season. However, there was still guided tour available. There was exhibition of some of Shakespeare's works in chronological order and the rebuilding of the Globe theatre, which apparently was only a replica from the original one. But suffice to say that it was well designed. There was space even for audience to literally stand in front of the stage and if close enough, could even put your elbows on it. If one is playing a role, it seems that one must be flawless as any faults made can be pretty obvious by its proximity to the audience.
We ended the night with another musical entitled "Legally Blonde", a very easy show to watch. It was about Elle Woods (the leading actress) whose boyfriend dumped her for another lady in Harvard Law school. Elle's role was a bimbo one but she joined the ivy league too to prove herself. It was quite entertaining and in the end, she found another man in the Harvard Law school and showed herself to be a smart and witty law student.
After the show, we went back to the hotel to have Maggie mee (again). We rested soon after we finished the meal.
