I had a big suprise when Kate and I decided to travel to the biggest lake in Honduras. As we turned up at our hotel, two of the other volunteers were sitting in the restaurant and came running up to us screaming. Then two others showed up and before we knew it we had a holiday of 6 of us.
We wanted to see the lake as soon as possible, so we hired a boat and attempted to sail it with two very heavy oars. After turning round in circles and virtually not moving anywhere, it started to rain and we were afraid of sinking in the middle of the lake. Luckily we made it out just in time!
The second day we went on a tour behind a water fall. Initially I thought this would be a small, gentle waterfall. But once I got there I could see a very big and powerful waterfall which made it very hard for me to see or even breathe as I was made to walk through it. Half way across it I had to turn back and recover in a cave, but it was still an amazing experience! Afterwards, we washed off in the river and the current was so strong that we all found it hysterical how we would drift away unwillingly.
We then went on a very beautiful walk around the lake and took some quite skillful photos of all of us posing by the lake. We ended up get lost in the dark and stumbled across a honduran who was nice enough to show us the way back through a forest with his machete; strangely I felt very safe. Back at the hotel we all had cocktails and watched a film in bed to end our busy day.
