Due to Kate being bitten by a monkey, me and her were both jetted off to Costa Rica by first assist to have injections and were made to have a five day holiday, staying in Radisson Hotel (such a pain). Seeing as I had to acompany her I didn't complain when all my flights and hotel and food was paid for. Not only was everything free, we also got a few days off school to have a luxury holiday; but I wouldn't want my students knowing that.
So we were driven to our hotel and given the keys to our room. Walking in to see two double beds, a bath, hot water, a wide screen tv and a mini bar was so overwhelming that there was only one thing I could do, scream and do a starfish jump onto my gynormous bed. Although we were in such a beautiful and hot country, we didn't really feel like exploring it for the first day. So instead we chose to be slobs and chill in our room. I had my first bath for months and we then both watched a film in our beds and fell asleep not long after.
The next day was more productive as we went down for our free breakfast buffet. This consisted of waffles, pastries, fruit, eggs and most importantly BACON!! We then went to the town centre to find a cute market where we were able to buy cute jewellery and I found an amazing sequin bag. It was also great just to walk around as I got to use my spanish skills (which are almost non-existent) with the locals, but I was still impressed with myself. In the evening we decided to head to a club. But with any night out, the most fun part is getting ready. So playing music and doing our hair and makeup in our luxury hotel room was so much fun that when we finally arrived at the club we were a bit let down. They had closed the main part and refused to play anything other than a constant drum and bass beat that became quite robot like after a while, with everyone just side stepping the whole night. Kate and I was disapointed as we were hoping to show off our salsa skills. After a while we left and went to an American diner to have THE biggest meal I've ever had. Somehow I was able to make my way through a gynormous burger and fries.
The next day was a bit of a disaster as the hotel receptionist had recommended us going to a beach that took us 5 hours to get to and the traffic ended up being so bad that we got out and walked the rest. The beach had black sand, dirty water, tons of people everywhere, and the floor was covered in rubbish. We must have been there for 5 minutes and both decided to head home again. So we went back to the bus station to find a very long que which took us 2 hours to finally get on another bus home. The only upside was that we met a few costa ricans in the que and had quite a funny, and long, conversation with them.
The last day was more successful as we went to Jaco Beach which was much nicer: white sand, calm sea and virtually no one there. We decided to hire mopeds to ride up the hills. A very hippy costa rican accompanied us up beautiful paths with so much green, and we even passed a few waterfalls. He even took us down a secret route to find an undiscovered waterfall with a pool. But unfortnuately, we didnt have our swimming costumes. But the trip was so worth it as not only could we ride the bikes super fast, but we could also see beautiful views of the country.
The less said about our journey back to Honduras the better, as our flight was delayed for a day and we ended up strongly disliking the airport and everyone in it. But we have decided that we definitely want to return one day to discover more of Costa Rica's beauty.
