Spot X, Surf Camp
We arrived at spot x about 4:30pm, and checked in, then went to our cabins after a quick orientation tour, the accommodation was like a mini trailer/caravan park, and so we had as one of the girls described it a tin metal hut, I got the bottom bunk again which I was pleased about, there was already sand everywhere pretty much, but we all got changed and then hit the beach for some afternoon sun before dinner at 6pm, I went for a walk along the beach on the waves as the water was so warm compared to bondi and coogee beach, and picked up a load of pretty shells as so far I hadn't seen any on the other beaches that I'd been too, then after trying to read on my towel, it got wayyy to sandy, so as our surf lesson started at 7am the next morning, I went for a shower to de-sand, before dinner then chilled out in the hammocks, and then we had dinner, a huge plateful of cooked food and I got to go first as I was the only veggie in the camp! But it was tasty then some of the girls let me share their goon and they didn't want any money for it which was pretty nice of them, and we just had a chilled night by the campfire, and then to bed,
Early start after bug drama before bed in the night, our cabin door didn't like to open or close depending on which state it had been left in, so our wake up call at 6am was kind of funny as the guy couldn't get in to tell us to wake up, he could only shake the whole cabin trying to open the door, he soon gave up and luckily we were awake and not really heavy sleepers, so got ready went for a sort of breakfast, I didn't feel like eating much but knew that surfing can make you hungryyyy, and we all a little unenthuastically headed for the safety talk before our lesson, most people chose to surf on bikinis/board shorts (though our group was all girls for some reason) and not wetsuits, it was a good lesson learnt 2 new techniques to get up on your board, I had a yella surf board by the way, and then found out half way through the lesson that I needed a slightly longer board in order to be able to stand up and surf properly, but still had fun so no worries mate!
After our 3 hour lesson we showered and sunbathed till lunch, then had a look at the photos from our lesson as there was a photographer there to record our nose dives and surfing, there weren't really any great photos, and the group one we were all grimacing or squinting straight into the sun, and the photographer seemed to have taken a profound interest in just one of the girls, so there were quite a few photos of her! And we all wanted to get a few, and decided to spilt the money as they were expensive, like $20 for 5 or 3 photos, but apparently privacy laws in NSW means that we couldn't do that and we wouldn't get our photos if they were of someone other than yourself, which is total raubbish as how will they know who you are and if that was your friend or not, but we didn't want to loose our money, as they sent the photos after you went on the website with a code, so we didn't bother, but were all pretty annoyed about it, anyway it was soon time to be off on the bus again,
So we waited for our bus/coach and up trundles a little worn mini bus with luggage trailer and we joked and said oh no that won't get us to Byron Bay it looks pretty weathered, and low and behold, not more than 45minutes into our journey on the road and a bang and some other odd noises and we had to pull over onto the side of the road as we'd broken down, everyone had to get out while the bus driver tried not to panic, and tried not to show us that he was panicking as it was a bus full of girls and one American guy, so we all waited, it was by the side of someone's front drive (again you can see my photos later when I post them) and waited, the driver and the American guy (called Phil) moved the luggage trailer off the road and into side of the drive way, and then Phil had to don a fluorescent vest and slow down the traffic while us girls all helped push the bus and manoeuvre it onto the side of the driveway next to the luggage trailer, we did well, and was pretty funny to see I reckon, then we waited for a bus to be sent out to us from the next town, and it was after an hour or so, which me and 3 other girls passed by sitting in the empty luggage trailer as it was cooler and not covered in ants or prickly grass and such, thus we were nearly left behind, but managed to load our bags into the new luggage trailer and climb onto the new air conditioned bus in time before it left without us, and arrived in Byron Bay without further ado
