Kanchanaburi is a town about two hours away from Bangkok. I think it is best known for the Hellfire Pass section of the Death Railway that was constructed here during World War II.
I spent three days here and it was a lovely trip except that the organisation of the trip was not very good!
Let's start with the first day where I am meant to have a 6.30am pick up. Now it is normal for them to be late but by 7.15 I was starting to worry so I called them and I guess they had just forgotten so I got a taxi and met the bus in town. So it was all going well until halfway down the road they stop off and put me in a different minivan. So e eventually we make it to the first stop, the Floating Market.
The floating Market was pretty cool. we were paddled down a river in a small boat and all along the sides there were shops and stalls set up on boats and they pull your boat over so you can see what they're selling. After the boat we walked around and saw some men with snakes. They let me touch it which was cool. There were also a couple of baby elephants which were pretty cute.
Our next stop was the Bridge over the River Kwai. I didn't really understand the whole story behind it at the time but it was cool to see.
Our final stop was the death railway (named because of the number of people who died while making it not because it's dangerous!). We took a train along a section of it and it was along the cliffs so we had a great view.
Lastly we were taken to our accommodation which was a raft-house. This was cool because we were literally on the river. We sat and had a few drinks watching the river go past.
