Holly's and Helly's BIG adventure!!
Well, here we are on day two in Venice, still at our campsite because it is actually too hot to do anything! Even sitting down makes you hot, its unbelievable!
After a hot and sticky night in our tiny cabin with no air comditioning, something we got used to in Greece and Rome, we set off bright and early yesterday morning into Venice. Rather than making a beeline for the main sights we decided to wander around, Venice is so good to wander around, there are so many little streets with interesting buildings or shops to look at and every now and then you come across a canal with a little bridge crossing it.
We managed to find the Grand Canal which is beautiful, the buildings here are so amazing, lots of Moorish influences and they all go right down to the water. I am actually finding it quite hard to get my head around the fact that Venice doesn't actually have any roads in it, everyone does actually get around by boat, even the ambulances are boats! We got a bus (another boat!) down the Grand Canal and just admired all the buildings lining it. Much as we would have loved to go in a Gondola it wasn't to be, it actually is so expensive, so the bus was the next best thing.
I am amazed by the masks, they are all so beautiful and was persuaded to buy one, how could I come to Venice and not get one really!!
The campsite where we are staying is still quite disappointing, especially compared to the one in Rome which was quite amazing, but we only have one more night here left, before we set off for Milan and then Barcelona. Both Helen and I are really really looking forward to Barcelona, if only because it means that we are in the last country. Travelling is so much fun and I have had an amazing time, but I know I will be ready to go home when the time comes!
