Friday 3rd october - day 42
Delhi
after staying up quite late trying to book the bus to agra (you cant use foregin cards) we hear from sarah that a guy went to the train station and got a ticket for agra for today.. yas also sees on the internet about a special quota for foreigners being reserved.
We all go down and find a foreign tourist bureu at the station..within an hour weve booked a train to agra for tonight and one to jaipur for saturday night.. ive got a good mind to go back to that tourist office for my $100, cheeky b******!!
We check out the hostel, leave our bags in saras room and take a rikasesh down to humayuns tomb. Humayun was the second mughal emperor and is bured in tomb along with his wives and son..even his favourite barber!! there are various parts to the park to see, we walk through the gardens, along the walls ect for an hour or too. we grab some veggie food on the way back to the hostel, say our goodbyes to sara (shes off to varanasi) and get the train easy enough. the trains - although filthy looking from the outside, smell a million times better and the toilets are ok too. theres people jumping on and off whilst the trains still moving and people boarding with what looks like half a house worth of belongings. We even see someone just jump down onto the track to switch platforms.
Weve ended up on a sleeper for the 3 hr journey as it was the only option left and they are just like the chinese ones.. people dont stare as much and just leave you to it, which is nice. once at agra station, we take a rikeresh to the hostel and check into zostel which is a brand new hostel which has only been open for a few days. Straight away the staff go and get us beers from the shop and we join everyone in the common area - a mix of english, european, canadian - a normal hostel is so nice after the doggyness of delhi. we stay up till 2 and set our alarm for 5 to get to the taj for the sunrise.. guh!!
