Lakitia's Assignment
Hey everyone it's me again. Today was an awesome day I had the privilege to visit townships here in South Africa, some would say that they resemble the ghetto in the USA, but I really enjoyed my time there. You have 2 or 3 families living in one shack-that's ok to say here, and the whole area has a true spirit of community. We live everyday fighting against one another and trying to pull the next man down but here for example if a man's brother doesn't have a home he will open his doors to him. And the real thing about these homes are that they are truly made with love, built by the people that live in them and watched after by the members of the community. They live by the old African proverb it takes a village to raise a child and I saw it first hand children that are 4 and 5 years old 2 lines over from there home. The shacks are so close together that you can leave out on and you're already in the kitchen of the other. The people love life and each other and its wonderful to see;we see each other everyday and won't speak and these people who don't have much but love each other and want to see the next person make it put us, including me, to shame. While we are rich with material things, they are rich in love, pride, dignity, and self-respect for themselves and each other. So I think that we all have a lot of progressing to do, in so many ways they have surpassed us. While we are feeling bad because they don't have materially maybe we should take a lesson from them and learn how to instill in ourselves and others a true spirit of character, what all of them have. Question of the day: What or who are you fighting against, is it the person next to you or the insecurties that you carry within yourself that you try not to let others see? Quote "Who are you not to be brilliant, goregous, and fabulous? My question is who are you not to be, we are children of God."
