I got to Byron yesterday and everything has been nice and relaxing! Its a hippy-surfer type town with a few well-placed wealthy folks to drive the price of real estate sky high. Yesterday started really hectic as I overslept and missed the train to the airport. I had to take another one that only got me close and then take a cab. My driver was a very passionate Lebanese man who expounded upon all the politics of the Middle East. I didn't agree with most of it and some of it was propaganda, but all in all it was a unique opportunity to listen to someone from a culture that I will never understand.
Yesterday was nice. We did a walk on the beach and then Shultzie cooked the most wonderful lamb souvlaki meal. Don't worry mom, I am bringing the recipe home. Then Shultzie, Junior, and I went on the town to solve the world's problems over more than a few beers. 'Rounds' are referred to as 'shouts' over here and once the order is established you are expected to buy when it is your turn. The problem being that they both drank much faster than me. We were all a little slow this morning. The afternoon should be relaxed. After I am done studying, we are going window shopping around town. The wind is pretty harsh, so no surfing. I am not happy about that, but mother nature isn't listening to my pleas!
