Some ramblings from TLPT .....
.. while riding mile-for-mile these last two weeks matching Iain on the continent with daily routes in/around Berkshire and Surrey to and from work - seemingly a virtual route and a virtual destination.
Reading the notes from Iain, there are two quotes which spring to mind and seem very true a) 'It is not about the bike ' - Lance armstrong could have been referring to the machine that Kerstin was riding, and b) 'It doesn't get easier, you just go faster' - Iain is proof of the quote from Greg Lemonde. Well done Iain - 20mph I will have my work cut out to keep up now!
I still can't for the life of me work out why Iain stopped that time I ran into the back of him - it was a long staight level road, and .. well it was around the time seemed to have 'deathwish' with 2 falls in as many days. My big regret is that I was too slow in capturing those moments for posterity.
Anyway Iain will have most enjoyed the last two weeks riding on his own, not necessarily becuase it is often easier to 'ride at ones own speed', but more because he hasn't had to follow the England flag on the back of my bike!
The hard work has been done, we are now well over 2/3 completed (except for the gradient leaving Dover!!). I return to the 'real route on Friday evening joing up with Iain somewhere 'around Oostende.. I have just learnt that the Ramsgate-Oostende ferry doesnt take footpassengers or cycles, so that will be a challenge.
Actually talking of hard work, this middle section of 'riding and working' has been really tough - I undersetimated big time! All your messages of support, encouragment, and generous donations are hugely motivating.
Riding the Surrey/Berkshire roads, and I think I know them all now - I have been doing some maths and with all the pledges made so far, even riding at 10 mph it works out at £5 per minute.
Thank you!!
