G'Day Everyone!
Sorry again for taking forever to update this! So let's get to it! April 1st to April 5th I went on a holiday to visit my friend from summer camp, Siobhan, in Auckland, New Zealand. On April 1st, my friend Liz and I flew into Auckland around 11:30 pm and Siobhan picked us up from the airport. We drove for about 20 minutes to her house and we went straight to bed.
The next day we got up early and drove 2 and a half hours to Roturua (which is where Siobhan grew up and where the largest population of Maori (native New Zealanders) live). Once we arrived in Roturua we checked into our hotel and walked around the town. Siobhan was our personal tour guide. We had lunch at an adorable little cafe called The Fat Dog. The food was amazing! We then went to the grocery store because Siobhan wanted us to try different Australian foods and lollies! After exploring we went back to the hotel to hangout, watch Maori television and try the different types of NZ food. We drove to a place to go street luging (the Luge is a fun filled ride on a three-wheel cart) but it was closed so we went back to the hotel to the spa and pool and then went to bed. The next morning we got up early, went back to the luging place and did three luging tracks. The three of us were the only ones on the tracks because it was a school day and it was 9 in the morning. After luging we went to a Maori cultural performance which included the Haka - - which was so cool to watch in person! We toured a Maori village (led by one of Siobhan's aunties - - because the village is Siobhan's family's village). After the cultural performance and village tour, we went to Hell's Gate, which is a geothermal spa. We had natural mud baths and swam in a geothermal pool. It was a very unique experience that was fun (except we smelled like sulfur for days afterwards). That night we went to a local club/bar to meet one of Siobhan's cousins. The following day, we checked out of our hotel and went zorbing (if you dont know what that is you can google it, haha). Zorbing is basically a huge plastic ball that you either get harnessed into or it gets slightly filled up with water and then you get pushed down a hill. It was the coolest thing I have ever experienced! It sounds very strange but it was really awesome! After zorbing, we drove back to Auckland to visit with Siobhan's family and to see Auckland lit up at nighttime. Siobhan made us dinner and afterward we drove around Auckland - - on another personal tour. We walked around downtown and went to the harbour. We got dessert from this bar/restaurant that was absolutely amazing! Then we drove back to Siobhan's house and talked with her mom and played with her new baby brother (I think he is about 4 or 5 months old)! You all know how much I love little kids and babies! The next day was our last day in NZ ... we woke up fairly late and had breakfast. Siobhan drove us to the airport and we said our goodbyes! Overall, it was an amazing trip and I am glad I got to visit Siobhan and New Zealand! I just wish I could have stayed longer than 4 or 5 days.
