Have finally found out how to use this journal!
Having a great time here in Gerringong with my friend Pat. Arrived on Wednesday 14th Feb at Sydney where I found a harrassed Pat busy looking for her purse, which she thought had been stolen on her arrival at the airport! I told her not to worry as it would turn up, so we go to the car park and there she could not find her car!! Half an hour later we found it and 'low and behold' there was her purse in the boot. We then set off in a more relaxed mood to her lovely new home.
Pat lives in a most beautiful part of the world and she could not have chosen a better place than Gerringong. After showing me around she whisked me off to lunch with her friends David and Barbara who live nearby. Their house also is lovely with panaromic views over the village to the sea beyond. After a delicious lunch I tried to keep up the conversation but jet lag got the better and we went back home.
The next day I felt really refreshed after a good night's sleep. Pat took me out to 'Seven Mile Beach' where had a lovely lunch at The Fisherman's Club in Geroa (salmon and avocado pizza- delicious). In the evening we were invited for champagne and nibbles to Pat's next door neighbours Nancy and Brian.
On Friday we went down again to the beach (7am in the morning) where we had a long walk, a frolic amongst the surf - causing great hilarity; went back to get changed then set off for Crooked River vineyard where we (mainly me) tasted the local produce before dining. In the evening we were again invited out to dinner to some more friends, Peter and Barbara, where we had a very jolly time with them and other guests Darryl and Irene and Bob and Lynne. I have to say Pat has chosen well in living here as she not only has a lovely home but her friends I have met are a very caring and jolly lot that I know will look after her and keep her safe.
Today, Sunday, we have been to Kiama and looked around the craft fair, lunched at the 'Sugar Bag', toured the shops and ended up at the local beauty spot the 'Blow Hole'!
Off to Sydney tomorrow.
Mon 19th Feb: Staying at Pat's daughter's lovely home near the ferry station (Duke St) Balmain East. Take the ferry to the harbour and have a look at the shops.
Tues 20th: Queen Mary docking on her maiden world tour - quite an historical event as she is meeting the QE2 here. QM2 in first so we hire a water taxi (after bartering with others for the cheapest fare!) which takes us around the harbour to see the ship. Massive. Lunch in fancy restaurant where we pay a lot for a little, but enjoy the view. Off to botanical gardens where we refresh ourselves in the cafe whilst helicopters rush overhead on their security mission, all the while disturbing the flying bats in the trees above our cafe. What a noise!! The bats are huge (flying foxes) and scream into the air practically blocking out the sun there are so many of them.
Eat later in lovely harbour restaurant and watch the QE2 come in. Lovely day. Off to NZ tomorrow.
