Call it a whim, an impulse, a coup de foudre...whatever you call it I am once again in Morocco, I just love it too much here. I flew in once again to Marrakech last Thursday from Paris, seated next to a little French kid who could not contain his excitement as we flew over la Ville Rouge (they call Marrakech 'the Red City' because of the colour of all the buildings being the same dusty pink), and I have to say I was grinning almost as hard as he was. Got off the plane and returned 'chez la famille' where there were flowers and cakes everywhere. I know I have said this in prior blog entries, but the welcome here has been so warm, I really have fallen on my feet in finding a group of genuinely lovely people.
From Marrakech, Marwan, Abdoul and I headed North and did a grand tour of Northern Morocco - a three day road trip which covered Fes, Moulay Yakoub, Chefchaouen (Brian, if you're reading this, you were right, it is beautiful there), Tetaouen and Tanger as well as an accidental foray into Casablanca when we got a bit lost on the way back. This country is just amazing, there is such variation from place to place. The time we drove south we passed blue-grey montains which gave way to the dusty yellow of the desert. The time we drove west we passed the fields of argan trees before meeting the turqouise sea. This time heading north we drove through rolling green hills covered in olive groves and wheat fields which got yellower and yellower the further north we drove, and bright red poppies grew wild everywhere. There is just so much colour everywhere here.
From Tanger, Spain was visible across the water. So I didn't miss out on seeing it after all! Honestly, I have seen so much on this trip, words can't capture it all and I think even my photos fall short because they miss the tiny details which have made eveything so magical.
Today's entry is a short one, as I don't want to miss too much of my last day in Morocco. I'm sure there are still tastes and smells and sights out there which I have yet to experience.
