Following a great nights sleep in a lovely comfy bed at the Gloria Angkor with aircon in the room (Cambodia is very very hot, especially at night!) we headed down to make the most of our buffet breakfast. We thought this was pretty good, some reviews had said it wasn't great but people need to find something to moan about I guess!
Our new hotel is so nice, I don't want to leave! We were greeted with a free drink, snacks and an ice cold, sweet smelling face towel! There's a pool, free breakfast, aircon, tv, hot water, the staff are so helpful and friendly, we had a movie screening list brought to our room along with sweets and a BEDTIME STORY!!! Amazing! Today we got a free fruit basket and free bike hire, much better feeling at this place to our first nights accommodation!
We took advantage of our free bike, complete with cute front basket, and set off to find the temples of Angkor Wat!
The roads here are absolutely ridiculously manic! (Grandma don't read!) They drive on the right...well some chose to, basically they drive wherever they is space and often 4,5,6 across with mopeds coming towards you. There is no order at junctions it's just a free for all for Tuk-Tuks, motorbikes, push bikes and a few cars, whoever has the nerve, and they chose which way to go around a roundabout depending on how quick it is to get to their turning! Crazy! However, we managed to survive and get through the mayhem on our push bikes and it wasn't very long at all before we were heading along the quieter road to Angkor Wat. It was actually quite a lot of fun taking on the city by bike and it was lovely riding along the quieter roads in the sun under the blue skies of Cambodia.
After securing our temple pass we locked up our bikes and explored the grounds of the main temple, walked around, got our bearings and explored a bit in the baking hot sun! We will go back in a couple of days to watch the sunrise over the temples and do a tour of all of them by Tuk-Tuk as its quite some distance between them.
This evening we had planned to head to the theatre to watch some traditional Aspara dancing, our hotel arranged it all for us. It was something Amy really wanted to do and I thought I could be quite interesting. After a swim in the pool and a bit of pampering time our Tuk-Tuk arrived to pick us up. It didn't turn out as we expected as he dropped us at a random restaurant in the middle of nowhere! Lots of people were there though and it was an all you can eat buffet while you watched the Aspara dancing. We didn't have a clue what was going on to begin with but it was actually a really good evening- the food, dancing, cocktails and costumes were good and it was half the price of the theatre.
