Think I left off from Cebu last postcard after buying a new camera! We got up bright and early the day we had to leave to sort out our flights to singapore. We had to change them to a day early otherwise we would overstay our visa and it would cost us alot! Learnt from Thailand see?!?! It's all sorted now but was such a pain, they wouldn't do it over the phone so we had to go to their office, when we got there they then informed us that Sez tickets were issued by Virgin so they couldn't change hers. So we decided to just make our way to Malaspascua and ring from there. When we got there we couldn't get to an international phone but have managed to sort them out now.
To get to Malapascua the first bus stop we went to informed us that there were no more buses going so we had to get a taxi to the Bus terminal. We got pounced on when we got there from 2 different bus companies fighting over us to get on their bus, at one point one of them was walking off with Sez bag and we had to shout at him. Eventually we sorted out which one to get on but, it was only going to Bogo at 3pm, which is about an hour away from Maya where we had to get the boat. It took us around 3 hours to get to Bogo and then we had to wait there for an hour for the next bus to Maya. When we eventually got there the boats had stopped running but they were willing to charter a private boat for 1500 pesos (15 quid) but in the book it said it should cost 400. So we stared to walk off to find a hotel for the night and just leave early in the morning. Luckily there was a guy there that spoke really good english and told us that there was another tourist coming in about 10 mins and if we waited we could share the boat with her for only 500. So we waited and got the boat with her. We got dropped off at the place she was staying because she had booked, and of course it was the other side of the island to the cheap place we wanted, so we had to walk about 1km along the beach, there were no paths, Malapascua is still developing so it was like going back in time. We eventually found it and managed to get a bungalow right on the beach for 3 pound 60 pence between us - bargain! Following day I went to book my diving and then we just chilled on the beach (yes we finally got some sun), oh, forgot to mention we only had electric from 6pm to midnight!! So the nights we unbearable as we had no fan and it was roasting. Next day had to get up at 5am for my first dive!!!! But it was worth it, got to see a Thresher Shark, hee hee, was so exciting! but it gets better. My dive in the afternoon was to go and find Manta Rays. I didn't get my hopes up as I've been promised mantas before and not seen them, but this time I saw 2, and they were huge. One was 3m and one was 5m and they were swimming together, which apparently does not happen very often and they got so close, within about 3m I would guess. We literally spent the whole 50 mins of the dive sat on the bottom of the ocean watching these massive rays, it was one of the best dives of my life. That night we went out to celebrate with a couple of Italian guys we met the night before. We ended up in this bar that has an international shooter drinking competition, where basically you have to drink 15 shooters in order and still be able to stand. You then get a point added to your country on the score board and your name on a small plaque on the wall. England were at 3rd place with 92 points when we started, they are now on 94 points!!! It was an excellent night, we even managed to find a disco that still had electric and about 10 of us took over and literally cleared the locals from this disco. Left the next afternoon at about 12pm and finally arrived in Bohol at round 7:30pm, very long day with slight hangovers!
So, in Bohol (staying in Tagbilaran City), we have been to the Tarsier Sanctuary, where they are helping to protect Bohol's trademark primate. They call it the worlds smallest monkey and they are so cute. They are about the same size as a new born kitten. I couldn't believe how small they were. Also because the ones in the enclosure you walk around used to be pets you can get really close and they just sit there and let you take pictures. After this we came back to the city and then hired a moto driver to take us to the Chocolate Hills, which are these giant mole hills between 30 - 50 metres that all look practically identical and there are about 1300 of them. We could see them as far as the eye could see and stayed there to watch the sunset. Was pretty amazing but u need to see the pics to appreciate them.
We are up early tomorrow to catch our flight to Manila for a couple of days. We fly out on the 24th to Sinapore, so I will update after our visit to Singapore. Philippines had been brilliant and I hope I will get to come back some time soon. It might have even knocked Thailand off my top fav country!!!!!
