'Sup Nerds.
Before I begin... I'd like you all to know that I've earned myself some bloody good choc, which is giving me brain food for the blog, as I'm currently running on empty. Rum and Raisin Choc, if you please. Whittaker's Choc. Get involved haters.
Got smart, was up nice and crispy early at 6am. Was buzzing for the hike, but first I had to get some real boring, sensible housewife s*** from the store. I also strategically dropped my sodding toothpaste out of the window, which was handy. Thought I'd be a kind, nature loving lass, and let this moth out the window whilst I was showering... just ended up whacking a healthy loaded, toothpaste tube out on to the roof top... if only every kid were as smart as me.
"Oh for f*** sake."
May have made the person next door to me jump a little. Anyway! You kind people don't wanna hear about my toothpaste f*** ups...
So, got me a nice big bag of banana chips, hooked up with the hike clan in the kitchen, and off we went! Jan and Donna drove in the little, white (Trotter' s Independence Taders style) automobile... Whilst Robyn and I hopped into this family sized Honda. Was pretty cool. Had a little music system sorted with my IPod and Robyn' s portable speakers.
Drive down there seemed to zoom by! Got there pretty quick (without speeding Mum! I promise)... Me and d Robyn chatted about tons of stuff. Seems like a really cool lass. I think I was missing girlie chats, so I offloaded a bit.
After winding around huge, beautiful, green mountains, making our way along the cost, we finally reached our destination. Before checking out the hike from Marahau, we stopped off to check out the water taxi deals, and the beaches in Tasman. Oh my sweet brother Numpsay! It was by far one of the most stunning beaches I had ever seen. Would even give the Cook Islands a run for it's money. We took some snaps... and figured out what would be the most doable trek in that day. The whole Abel Tasman trip can be completed in around 5days... They have stop off places, and camp sites you can crash out between hikes. However we were looking to just hike for the day. By the time we got there it was around midday. Was a real stunning day too!
Rather than sodding about with water taxis, forking out $35 each...We decide to go for the budget option and drove up to Marahau to begin our trek from there, see how far we could get, then head back. The water taxi dude warned us that it'd be a long arse walk there and back. By golly, the boy was right!
Off we trotted, two Englishes, the Canadian and the German. Like a little fellowship. We trudged over this bridge to reach the beginning of the forest. Stood on this bridge and watched the tide swoop below us. Was so fast! Never seen a tide glide in so quickly! Woah, dude... crazy fast.
We were surrounded by pure beauty. The trek was friggin long. It was pretty basic. All we had to do was follow this pathway through the forest/jungle, which was all signposted... giving you a rough estimate of how long it would take to get to each section. Pipsqueak!
My arse hurts.
So yeah it was a pretty beefy trek. We climbed through this forest/jungle... and every few metres we stopped to absorb the most beautiful views imaginable. You could see right down to the beach. Waters bluer than my genital injury!... in case you lot give a s***, my moo moo is holding up okay. I think I can still have a Raratongan baby if I want... So that's a bonus.
Anyway, yeah... This place cleansed my innards just by looking at it. Made me feel all happy and tickley inside.
We managed to get some really nice pictures! We walked down towards Apple Tree Bay where we had lunch. Sandwiches, banana chips, cookies, apples, kiwis... (the fruit, not the men, unfortunately). Was NOM. Just relaxed for a little while. Appreciated the sounds of the ocean like proper little hippies. Was so beautiful.
I quickly decided, that if I want to avoid irritating the crap out of these nice people, I'm gunna have to think up some new adjectives.
We carried on walking and decided to try and make it to Anchorage. The conversations between us all were quite amusing. It's really interesting learning about other travellers. They have their own individual views and opinions on places they have visited, give tips on different things and it also helped me to open my mind and appreciate different possibilities. Tempted to try 'WOOFING'...
We checked out this smaller beach that had tons of tiny mussels attached on to rocks. My camera had died so I didn't get a picture. But they were so tiny theses little mussels! Cute.
There were streams that trickled down to the ocean. It was so green, Sandy and just stunning. Could've sat there for hours taking in the scenery. There was a tiny cave that we checked out... pretty sure we heard some bat noises coming from the inside of a crack.
When we finally reached Anchorage, I was so happy. The beach was ORGASMIC. There I said it. I just hit a different level of weird... but it was f***ing scrumptious. There were people playing rugby there, chilling out Sunbathing and having picnics. It was lovely. Paradise.
Even the sand was different. So many colours. Yellows and oranges.. but like a deep yellow, was weird.
After we all massaged our eyes with this magnificent piece of earth, we hit back on the track... this time, we picked up the pace. Was a 3 and a half - 4 hour walk back... So we fancied slicing up some time. POW. We hit it hard. Trudged through the forest like Power Rangers. Smashed it. Knocked a good 40mins or so off our expected time, which was handy... Because we were in fact all pretty hungry and thirsty for BOOZE.
We rewarded ourselves with a cold, refreshing beverage at the restaurant in Marahau. Wine had never tasted so good. After walking 26k, the bar tender should've given us a bottle each... In my opinion anyway. We then hit the road for some grub on the way back.
'The Happy Chippy' was our chosen eat out spot. Sod it, I thought to myself. I'm having a burger. Not just any old burger, NAY!!! I ordered myself a bacon and banana burger. Why not mix your meat with a nice chunk of potassium? Fuggit.
When I bit into this little package of steamy bacon, banana madness... My brain couldn't comprehend the flavours in my mouth. I liked it. I think? I'll need to try another one just to be sure... but yeah, was pretty damn tasty. Must've been annoying to watch me eat it... people are annoying when they eat bananas anyway. Let alone when they're stacked between a messy meat and salad mountain, dribbling down my face. Nice.
Robyn headed back to Richmond, and I hopped in the Trotter-Mobile with the other two herberts. Donna, the legend whacked on a bit of Queen on the way back.
Such an amazing day. Spent with some amazing people.
