Wow! That is my first thought on this job so far. That's a good wow don't worry! My first day I was so nervous I'm pretty sure I was shaking. When I got to port I had to wait like an hour and a half for someone to show me where to go on the boat. Then right before I got on Tracy, a photographer from Australia, met up with me and gave me a tour. SO MUCH INFORMATION. This boat is ginormous! I get lost on a daily basis. But in my defense, it's only my 3rd day here. But I already feel like it's been longer. I've been so busy so the only time I really feel sea sick is in the morning when I'm getting ready. My room is really bad. You can hear the waves crashing against the boat very very clearly in my room. It sounds like someone is taking a bull dozer to the wall. For the past 2 days my roommate and I have come back to all our stuff from our desk on the floor. Yah sea life! My roommate is name Larrie. She is from the Philippines. I haven't really gotten to talk to her all that much because I've been working so much. My senior videographer, Roelof, is amazing! He's super nice and he's from South Africa. Casey, Guto and Dabbs said that you sometimes get crappy seniors that will either make you do all the work or make you feel like you know nothing. Roelof doesn't do either of those. He always tries to make sure that I know what is going on and lets me do just as much as he does. After battling all the guys in college to even have a role besides a producer on setfor four years, I really appreciate not having to fight my way to do my job. I even got to do the first 2 edits of the cruise. Tomorrow we arriving in Malaga and Roelof and I are going on a tour. I have no clue what the tour includes but I'm still excited! I'll be on land again!
Anyways, so overall, I really lucked out. I not only got a good ship but I also got an amazing crew. The rest of the Photo staff is so much fun. Every one of them welcomed me with open arms. Every time they see me they check up to see how I am adjusting. I don't like the idea that they won't all be here the entire time I am because they joined sooner. The head of my department is leaving after this cruise and Roelof is leaving in a month (after the next cruise). But I really can't complain because everyone here told me that only Americans are allowed to do the Alaska trips so usually that's where Americans end up. I'm the only one from the states in my department and I have yet to meet anyone else from the US. Most of the people here, that I've met, are actually from South Africa. It's odd being the minority. But oh well! The only thing that I wish was different on here was the fact that I have to pay for internet. But I'll be updating once a week. I'll be writing my blogs throughout the week and then I'll post them at some point during the week. Depends on what events are going on on the ship. I know this week is pretty busy because we are porting tomorrow (Monday), Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Then the following week we port on Tuesday and Thursday and return to Southampton on Friday. I also have a wedding this week on Tuesday….so busy busy!
Right! Bed then! (see what I did there? I sound foreign…right??)

Today was hands down the best day so far! I love this job. From the moment I stepped on this ship I felt 'at home.' I have not felt homesick once. I have never felt more comfortable in a new place…actually this is the first place I've ever felt this comfortable when it's brand new to me. Even when I'm getting lost I don't feel awkward….just confused! Haha. Today Roelof and I went with one of the excursion guides, Ann, into Malaga andCordoba. We went with the two guides so we pretty much got treated like royalty! It was a tour that is about to be added to one of the excursion options so we were kind of the guinea pigs. We were taken out to lunch to this gorgeous restaurant were we got a full 5 course meal. So good! Then in addition to all that, because we were all by ourselves we got great footage. Roelof filmed today so I could get an idea of what I should be getting and then I'll film our next port excursion which is in Alghero. Overall it was just an amazing day.
To top of the amazing day, I came back and I got gorgeous footage of the sun setting while we sailed away. Then I went to the gallery for the busies and got a ton of compliments on my editing on the new videos that are out J. I am so content here! I don't even care if I get sea sick in the mornings, it's all worth it. I don't want anyone from the crew to leave! I love my job!
