Jonnys Eastern Delights!
So I left behind sunny Dubrovnik on Friday and began heading into Montenegro, first stopping at Hereg Novi and then catching one of these furgon/collectivo thingies on to Kotor, which was where I wanted to get to. Along the way I met Chu, a really friendly guy from SIngapore but who had been living in London, and so we travelled to Kotor together. After an all action hour or so in the crowded furgon, we finally pitched up in the town of Kotor, which lies at the head of southern Europes deepest fjord. Its a picturesque little place that was once again baking hot - I literally can't remember the last time I saw a cloud! Chu and I just spent the first part of the afternoon walking the cobbled laneways from one small square to the next, stopping for a coffee and a beer along the way, and then decided to take the hike up the steep mountainside to the old fortifications overlooking the Old Town. Although it was hard work in my now battered flip flops and with the sun beating down, it was well worth it when we got to the top as we had some spectacular views down onto the old town and out over the fjord - a true guidebook photo! Along the way I continued the multilingual theme to my trip so far in chatting to a French guy - Im busting out all the languages at the moment!
Back at the bus station, we had some fun first trying to make sense of the Cryllic alphabet and then finding another furgon out of there heading further along the coast. After passing the time with a beer, we hopped on another crowded one - me, my big rucksack and all, and I left Chu, who had beena really welcome buddy for the afternoon, at Budva where I met up with James, the Scotsman who I originally met in Sarajevo. After moving into his hostel, I began to think it was gonna turn into one of those days when first I found my shampoo ahd exploaded in my washbag - over toothbrush and all and had to spend a good half hour cleaning all that up, then the showers weren't even working and I was well aware that I positively stank, and just to top it off I started getting the same stomache cramps that had threatened to stop my trip even getting started over a week ago. In another one of those small travellers world moments, Fetha, a girl in my room was the same girl I had chatted to back in Dubrovnik at the very start of the day, and who James had happened to bump into earlier at the bus station! So the three of us and a Norweigen guy, whos name I just could not remember, went for some tea at a nice traditional restaurant where I had goulash and was somewhat suprised when it came served with pasta! Apparently thats the Montenegrian way.
I had been well informed by James as to the quality of the women down at Budva - he hadn't stopped waxing lyrical. And I have to say, despite all prevous comments, I don't think I have EVER seen so many stunningly beautiful women in the same place before!! Suddenly my stomache cramps went away - funny that! Budva rocks!! It really was unbelievable. Whilst walking along the beach we actaully saw a tour for a day trip to Tirana, Albania and to cut a story short the four of us decided to go for it, despite the fact that it was now 1:30 am and the trip left at 6:45am!!! Needless to say I slept well that night, even if it was only for about 4 hours!
As for Albania, well, thats a whole other story.........................
