We got up early and walked a few blocks to the Gare du Nord to catch the Eurostar to London. Took over half an hour to go through various lines including the French Border Police, UK Customs preclearance and security. The train ride itself, including about 20 minutes in the chunnel, was quite pleasant. 2 1/4 hrs later we arrived in London and found our way to our accommodations via the Underground. Our rooms weren't ready yet, so we went for a nice brunch at a nearby restaurant. I had a toasted banana bread dish. We got separate dorm rooms (with fridges!) at Astor College but common showers and toilets. Pretty basic, but great value for London, and a great central location. My initial impression of London was better than Paris. Cleaner and not quite as teeming with people as Paris. Our first stop was the Imperial War Museum, where we spent several hours. Then it was off to Westminster Abbey for a free organ recital at 5:30. Finally a walk up to Trafalager Sqare where we took the Tube home and turned in early after another tiring day.
