The final day of diving the Great Barrier Reef saw us up at 05:45 to enter the water at 06:31!
Today my buddy was Sari from Finland and we managed to follow the plan. As us divers say "Plan the dive and dive the plan". I find conserving my air very difficult and generally have only enough for about 30 minutes underwater however we did see a White tipped Reef Shark swim gracefully by.
The sea was very choppy making it difficult to swim on the surface but Nicola made sure of her early morning swim with Nora.
The second dive of the day (my final one of the trip) was at 09:09 and I caught my first sighting of a Clown Anemone fish (the Disney Nemo fish). These live within an anemone and have a symbiotic relationship with the plant and protect their territory very aggressively. If they were not so small they could be dangerous but just in case I DID NOT TOUCH THEM!
The final swim of the day was a snorkel session and we prepared ourselves for a rough return to Cairns. Nicola and Georg having been pre-warned took up their station at the rear of the boat and survived.
The day ended at Gilligans with the gang from the boat. Another world with loud music, sports TV and jelly wrestling. Even though the funds are running low I could not persuade Nicola to enter the jelly wrestling for the $300 prize money.
It was good to finish the course/trip on a high note and it also gave Nicola a chance to meet Claudia, Georg's wife who had spent the last 5 days in Cairns shopping.
