Once again an early start, 4.30 pm to catch the Uluru Express to watch the sunrise over Uluru at 5.55 am. The sunrise proved to be better than yesterday with some gorgeous pink cloud around. I chatted to a lovely young girl who was on a 3 day visit to Uluru from New York. She said it was a special package and she was flying back after the 3 days! So much for saving the planet. On the coach we met a couple who had been in Cairns for 9 days who gave us some tips on places to see. After a welcome cup of tea and biscuits the coach left us at the start of the 'Base Walk', at this point you can climb up to the top of Uluru. This is not recommended by the Anangu (the local Aboriginal people) as the climb has a spiritual significance. We set off at 6.45 am and it was at least 25 degrees. Due to a month with well above average rainfall we were privileged to see some lovely wild flowers along the way, we saw an amazing gorge in the rock, a teaching cave, family cave, a cave for the women one for the men, the young adolescent men even had a cave with a hole purposely built to observe the men hunting near the watering hole. We saw very few people on the majority of the walk making it all the more memorable. The walk was around 9km and we made it in just under 3 hours running to catch the bus at 9.30 am. When we arrived back at the hotel we decided to go for a quick swim in the pool, a very quick sunbathe as it was really hot, shower and make the most of the internet to try to book a diving course. A last minute decision we booked a five day course in Cairns starting at 8.15am pick up from the Acacia Hotel. Included in the deal is two nights accommodation at the Cairns Hotel and two nights on board the boat, so we will see what tomorrow brings.....

Lou Well worth the wait! I can see why you haven't had time to do many entries - what a fantastic time you're having! P.S. I climbed Uluru when I went - so perhaps the spirits haven't been very pleased with me since 1992!!!!
Henry Yes the spirits will not have been favourable. I think having to live with Chris is proof positive! Seriously it is positively discouraged nowadays besides which it looks really hard particularly as it is very rough to the touch and people have left bits of themselves on the rock if they fell (cheese grater effect)
