Well I am here in Cusco for a week and it is a very pretty little city and there is plenty to do. We are here for The festival of the Sun however there is so much going on fesitval wise we dont know where to start.
We have been woken 2 mornings in a row by a man on a speaker in the main square, There has been procession after procession. Evey school child has danced for the mayor and every business here sponsored a puppet. Some puppets (which were massive things) were very much against America and the south Americans showed their opinions well. Others showed they were proud of their culture, lots of historic puppets. Everyone is dressed up in proper traditional dress.
We did stand in the market whilst someone tried to rob me. She put her hand in my back pocket and when I noticed she pretended to fall over! Does she really think people walk round with loads of valuables in their back jeans pocket!!?!
We have found numerous places to eat. There is Norton rats which is an English pub, there is the Cross Keys which is an English Pub, there is Rosie O'Gradies which is an Irish Pub etc etc etc .... I think you get the picture that this place is very commercailised. They even have IPA on from Suffolk and Old Speckled Hen is sold everywhere!
Our hostel is very nice and has the best bed I have slept in since home. It has a duvet!!!! The only problem with it is the fact it is up around 100 steps of which make you breathless (I still have altitude sickness).
Anyway I'll update you on the festival and on Cusco in general soon.
