When I landed in JFK airport I suddenly felt a wave of apprehension wash over me. After what I assume will be the most emotional airport departure I will ever make happened, I felt like jumping back on a plane and going home thinking "What the hell am I doing going around the world on my own?!"
Visiting New York was like visiting an old friend; I have seen it in person already but because we all see it so often on tv and in films its as through we are all so familiar with it already. As ungrateful as this may sound and as much as it pains me to say this, at first that visit to an old friend seemed quite hostile. It was hot, I was sunburnt, my feet hurt, there were queues everywhere (do not come to New York when school's out!) and to top off an exhausting Tuesday, my evening at the Empire State Building was marred by hours of queueing and security emptying my backpack because they couldn't tell the difference between an iPod and a bomb! Fortunately this hostility between me and the big apple didn't last long and it was merely down to spending a day in Central Park which changed my mind. Where else would you see jogging, cycling, exercise classes, music, dancing etc all in one place? I only wish there was a park like this at home! I can't think of anywhere else in the world that has the same appeal and magnetism that New York has and seeing the skyline in the distance when you are coming into Manhattan always gives me goosebumps.
Now I have departed NY for brand new sights and experiences so who knows what I will write about next time? Let's just hope I don't get any more sunburnt and I don't get mistaken for a terrorist again!
