Hard yakka getting up this morning.....another warm one coming up, 40C.
Thought we would try out the Metro Train today.....off to the Emirates Mall to have a look at the Ski Field, quite a long way from here.
The Metro Station is clean as a whistle, has to been seen to be believed......totally enclosed and air conditioned, double doors onto the train. Metros easy to navigate as there are only 2 lines at this stage.
Then there's the train itself.....not sure what powers them but there are no overhead lines and they are very fast. So clean I swear you could eat your food off the floor!
No graffiti, no loud mouth yobos. Very tough stance on crime here, police and security very visable. Hello Australia.....anybody there??????
Only litter is cigarette butts on the street.......smoking in the pubs and restaurants a bit lame.......guess the ruling Sheik must be a smoker!!
Checked out the Ski Dubai, looks like heaps of fun for kids and anyone wanting to try ski-ing......Roger didn't bother as the runs short and limited, rather spend money elsewhere.
Ventured back to the Yacht Club via Metro, bit of a non-event compared to what we are used to.
Back to Dubai Mall for a wander to keep cool......not as hot as yesterday thank heavens.
Found lots of shops selling Muslim Burkas.....some of them very fancily adorned with jewels. Funny when you are around them in their own environment you get very used to them. Especially when they are teamed with a male dressed in white!
Eventually found our way back to the hotel, dinner at the pub again.....good food and reasonable for Dubai prices.....and it serves beer and wine!
Not keen on their 'Turkey Bacon' though!
Well time to pack the bags for the LAST time (won't miss that bit!)......
Boy have we seen some contrasts.....
Can't remember enjoying something 'just for us', in such a long time. So many wonderful memories.....learned so much, shame we were not fortunate enough to do this at a younger age, we would have been so much more knowledgable.
Very blessed we have been able to experience this at any age. Heaps of things crossed of the 'Bucket List' in the last 6 weeks. Such a wonderful memory for whoever of us survives the other!
Roger's thoughts on the day.....
The train station has to be seen to be believed, sparkling clean. The doors on the platform s top you seeing the tracks, and also keeps the air-con on the platforms working. The train is as clean as the station - we are off to the ski-field for a ski in the middle of the desert....
Found out the ski-field was not worth it...only 90m run, by the time you got going you would be at the bottom...$180 for 2 hours. Good for beginners though. The bloke in front of me spent $890 for his family for 2 hours entertainment (fw).
I just saw 3 Arab women on mobile phones (wait for it) made of solid gold! The phones I mean - unbelievable!
Back on the train - a man just gave up his seat for Eileen....they are very well-mannered and helpful here.
A taxi would probably cost $A250 - train $A15 each daypass. (3.5 $A to their $1 -works out $A4.80 each)
No smelly buses in Dubai, the whole place is built for the future. So many new high-rises a laot more than the Gold Coast all very new - average height about 35 stories.
I think we have seen all there is to see in Dubai, what a great modern place - love it!
I forgot to mention the toilets.....In Poland etc, mostly all over Europe they charge you to use the toilet and they ration the paper to 1 square in some places. Here they just about follow you, flush the toilet and clean it after you use it, and hand you the paper to wash your hands, then procede to clean the handbasin after you! I'm sure if I asked them they would wipe my arse for my!
We used our train ticket ($A5) all day from 10am to 7pm and visited about 12 different place in Dubai - good value!
The sell this Stella Artois beer here and all over Europe - nice beer, I have some in the bar at home.
Well we have had a great time and it has been fun. We have been so educated and seen so many places - such a well organised trip, great to have so much info explained to us on the way.
Off to dinner, sleep and back on the plane again. Hope it doesn't bounce around the sky like the last one and scare the s*** out of us!
