What a beautiful city....about 1,000,000 population.
It has 13 universities with 250,000 students.
Woken up to a beautiful morning.....30deg predicted.
Roger and I both have colds.......lucky I brought the Codral so we can 'soldier on'.
Krakow was not bombed in the war it was used as the admin head quarters by Nazis.
Schindler's factory is here.
Real Estate very expensive in Krakow.
Called 'Little Rome' because of the number of churches. 100
Night clubs are in the medeival cellars.
Had lunch in the square and went shopping in the square, it is so wonderful. I just wonder how many feet have trod these cobblestones.
We have been approached by so many gypsies on this square!
Flower stalls stunning - roses, tulips and more.
Wieliczka Salt Mine.......
It opened 700 years ago. Several colours of Rock Salt mined here. Closed as a mine in 1992.
Wow that was different, we had to climb down 940 steps to an amazing sight...........several salt sculptures that were all sculptured by the miners. There are 3 churches there, one is huge and they have mass every Sunday, and you can get married there. Seeing is believing!
Nobody should bag Roger again about carrying emergency equipment....... His trusty pocket knife came to the rescue when Sammie (our friend) got locked in the toilet.........the 'Gestapo' guide couldn't help.......Roger to the rescue!
Then whilst we were returning to the surface by a horrible lift........8 people crammed in with no breathing space, one young lady got claustrobic, Roger's torch to the rescue!
Off to dinner tonight to a basement restaurant.
What a beautiful place Krakow is - another pleasant surprise.
Polish currency - Zlote x 4 = 1 euro.
Roger's added thoughts on the day.......
Love Krakow.....the Germans didn't bomb this place because they lived here. Lovely square. May I say how lucky we have been with the weather, perfect so far.
Salt mine was amazing.
