Roads in Germany no longer have unrestricted speed limits. Most of the roads in Germany are still the roads that were comstructed by Hitler in the 1930's. Remarkable!
Arrived at hotel - The Ritz Carlton
Wow! Very swank, best dress up tonight for dinner!
The hotel sits in the middle of where the Berlin Wall used to run, just snuck into the West side! Lucky!
Stopped this pm on the way here and saw and photographed the graffitti on the remaining part of the wall (see photos) amazing.
Cannot believe that the construction and destruction of this monstrosity happened on our lifetime.
Soviets built Wall - 13th August 1961.
Nothing to do with East and West direction of course, purely political terms.
Plan of the wall was taken from old parish maps from before the WW1.
Destruction started on 9th November 1989.
The wall is now marked by a double cobblestone line on the ground.
Communist workers were not keen to work hard following the reunification. Factories closed and all of a sudden they found them selves unemployable following the communist collapse.
West Berliners pay extra tax to support Lazy East Berliners even now.
There are many Abandoned housing and factories in East Berlin as there is a stigma attached to living in the old East Berlin. Bloody politicans!
Roger's added thoughts on the day.......
The roads are good here but nowhere as good as Australia. The Autobarn we have heard about with unrestricted speed limits has been shut down...too many Germans killing themselves...not surprised! Petrol €168 = $2.18 litre.
