Slept like babies. Cool 16 degrees top temp, fine.
Lovely breaky, off on our walking tour of Prague. Taken by bus to the President's Palace at the top of the hill and proceeded to walk down, passing the Cathedral built in 1849 - 1920. It is owned primarilly by the State but is being slowly handed back to the Roman Catholic church. Very spectacular but unfortunately we were not able to see inside as it is Sunday. Only around 7% of Czech people are practicing catholics.
Continued the walk down to the city square via the Charles bridge built 1000 years ago, the only way then to cross the river. There are now 7 bridges crossing the river in Prague. Unbelieveable crowd of people walking the bridge, most amazing!
Kristoff warned us several times to be aware of gypsy pick pockets, who are masters of their trade, and by all accounts they do rather well in this part of the world. This of course terrorised Roger!
Had lunch at a groovy restaurant in the square, then checked out the quaint shops, had to be back in time for the beer tasting..........this turned out to be a lot of fun. 11 of us sampled the 'brewed on the premises' Czech beer in 2 different pubs.......even I liked one of them! Most including Roger, staggered back to the hotel after downing 3 or 4 pints and sampling local cheeses and sausages.......good fun.
Off to a Highlight dinner tonight in the hotel with Czech cuisine and folk entertainment.......wine too I hope!
Yep there was wine........food was great, just read it received Michellin star in 2012, (Alcron - Radisson) guess that explains the quality of the food. Entertained by local folklore mucisians and dancers.
Back downtown to take night photos if the square, still very busy at 10pm.
Roger's thoughts on the day.......
Prague would be one of the prettiest cities I have ever seen.....very romantic. Real good day.
At the end of the war, the peple of Prague gave the Germans 1 hour to get out of the city or be shot!
