Can you believe I am here!!!!!
Tashkent has been destroyed many times over the centuries by earthquakes and invaders. Spent a day walking the city. Being Monday the museum was closed, a bit disappointing. The main market is unbelievable. Undercover about 2900sq m. of veg and spices. Then inside a huge dome, meat cheeses fresh salads nuts fresh pastas. Absolutely spotlessly clean. Then the bakery area where we were treated to local hospitality. We were hanging around the door to the bakery trying to buy hot bread. Watching the locals to figure out the rules. The boss lady came by and soundly abused everyone and closed the door. But beckoned us and gave us 2 rounds. We adjourned to a nearby daybed. We were feeling very satisfied with she noticed us there. Organised us the cushions and table cloths so we stay there a bit longer so as not to be rude. Next out comes tea, more bread, sweets (which are wrapped the bread). She tried to chat and was most friendly. Suddenly there was movement and she indicated the police were coming. All the locals made themselves very busy not near us. They seemed more like plain clothes health officials. Apparently, spasmodically the powers try to close the market down. Eventually escaped the hospitality after turning down the offer of more food in the restaurant and meeting some of the family. (Exchange rate 3000som to USD1. USD50 is about 2cm of cash!!)
