From Buffalo i took a bus to toronto and connected to another bus upto a place called Maynooth. This place had a population of 200 people and had a hostel which was the only one to serve as a near location to the Algonquin national park. It was just south and about a 30 min car ride into the park but the entire town was surrounded by lush forest so you wouln't no if you were in the park or not.
the guy who ran the hostel also did guided walks and rented canoe's whcih was really handy.
on the first day a did a hike on the cennannial route which was apparently onpened 100 years after the park was opened hence the name.
the walk was lovely nice and scenic with just the best views- there is just so much nature there and this is one of the smaller parks in Canada! plus saw loads of beaver ponds but alas saw no beavers!
this took about 4 hours from there we went to the visitor centre which was nice before doing another short hike round a beaver pond where we could hear moose but missed seeing them although everyone else seemed to see them.
it was home from here because we had to get back before the only genral store closed at 6pm!
because this was the only hotel/ hostel in the area it got loads of different kinds of people including a family of germans and there very active toddlers. It wasd kind of annoying due to they treated the place like a self catering apartment and took over the kitchen and dining room which really considering everyone else. plus they let the kids run up and down first thing and last thing at night!! was not very sociable with them.
second day did a canoe trip with a another girl up a river which ended in the national park and had this beautiful waterfall at the end. It was so flat and so quiet. just saw a few other people canoeing and some blue heron that was it!
That took up the morning before i headed back to Toronto. But well worth the trip out there and i've worked out thats what i prefer rather that the big cities so i think i'll try to do more active stuff really.
also met my first Brit since being here!
