So got into new York, after a very pleasant flight, at about 9 pm. Then immigration was a bit of a pain- got scanned, fingerprinted and photographed!
The taxi ride was more eventful, a little Indian man who had no idea where I wanted. He actually stopped on the motorway to ask me if he should take Brooklyn boulevard. How the hell should I no?
Weirdly the back of the cab had a satnav map screen so was able to zone in.
Anyway, my first day in new York I did the tourist thing- open top bus tour, statue of liberty, empire state building and time square.
I did however get lost for like an hour. I mastered being an assertive pedestrian but completely lost it on map skills.
I did however meet some interesting new yorkers. One guy was like mr new York had the accent and the cheeky humour. Literally 5 minutes later down the block I was just eating an apple and a large black guy offered a hug! So got a free hug on my first day in new York.
By the end of the first day I was getting really tired so I thought I'd head back early, you no have a nap, this did not happen.
In hindsight when I tagged along with someone in the morning to the subway I should of paid more attention!
So got back to Brooklyn in good time but then ended up walking around for what felt like hours. In the end I flagged a cab because I'd strayed into axe murderer-ville.
