Woke at 8 breakfast in hotel and amazing to see sprouts on the menu of course I had a couple ! Got the hop on and off bus tour. Walked round the gardens by the bay into 2 different domes stopped for snack lunch then went to marine bay sands for a drink in the rooftop bar. Amazing views but very grey skies and then I had to close the bar because the lightning struck! Had a message on Facebook from Chris Yardley who did the clipper race with us he was staying the Pan-Pacific hotel so we came back and met him in the 38 floor which is an exclusive membership bar for airline pilots. Managed to get up there and have a few Singapore slings which were delightful. Carl was called captain a few times which was cool. We then left and went for dinner along with a few drinks. A lovely day and evening
Learnt lots on the bus tour.
1. To make sure traffic congestion is low there is a high import cost to get cars in. You have to apply for a licence to have one which can be up to $50,000 US dollars. Then there are tolls on the road to. The license only last 10years. They only let new cars registers as old cars go off. The government invests in public transportation
2. Singapore relies on tourists 15 million visit each year.
3. Orchard area very expensive properties 6million US dollars
4. Singapore exports 15million US Dollars worth of orchids per year
5. The demand for domestic helpers on the rise. They live with their employers clean look after children and the elderly usually from Asia (Thailand etc) they get Sunday’s off and all meet at lucky plaza
6. The istana where the president and prime minister lives has a golf course on open to the public on public holidays. A height restriction around it so no tall buildings can overlook
