Full Moon party tomorrow night! I will update you about that some other time...
Arrived on Ko Phangan yesterday and spent what felt like a lifetime searching for accomodation in the midday heat. Well, two aussies did most the work - I made a very good 'bag watcher' (hey, it was an important job ok!?) They did a stirling job (didn't realise that phrase was in my vocabulary) and we are settled in some bungalows on a hill at the far end of the beach. We get a beautiful view over the sand and waves, made more pretty as the sun goes down and hundreds of pretty little twinkly lights come on.
I made it to Thailand a couple of days ago - choosing to head over to the Island of Ko Samui. I'd planned to stay here about 5 or 6 days, but (as per normal) I met some lovely people and decided to head for the full moon party after all. So we all got a ferry over and will be headed back to Ko Samui on Friday. (Which I am actually really looking forward to as we found a lovely hotel that costs us about 4 quid per night - but its like a proper hotel). For the first time in almost 5 months I used a proper fluffy towel instead of my travel one! (which is still lovely Lou!) Still, a highlight to my day - especially as the journey from Panang in Malaysia had taken 16 hours.
It appears that the Thai's aren't too concerned with 'time keeping'. The 4 hour trip (starting a 5am) to the Thai border went very smoothly. Then we were dropped off at a bus station - with no warning and with 3 hours to kill til our next bus arrived. Then we were picked up by a rickshaw, and taken to another bus station - and another hour wait. Then when we did get on the bus, we went about 3 miles in 2 hours... Delivering flowers as we went. Lovely.
Upon arriveal the taxi driver packed 5 of us in the back and set off to the beach we wanted to stay at. 10 minutes later we started to think that the scenary was looking familiar. It was. We were back at the pier. I think he plan was to squish a few more in. We weren't having any of it! 30 minutes later, we got to our hotel - and proper food! Breakfast had been crisps and lunch was Mentos. Wonderful!
Right, the beach is calling... kinda xx
