After a (very) late start on our final day in Vegas we set off for San Diego. It was a long and quiet drive after the night before but we eventually arrived. We went out for a lovely last meal with Rich and some drinks. The dinner was especially memorable for a few customers joining in with the local singer before one of them shouted 'the drinks are on me'. We all got excited at this but unfortunately it seemed to be a joke. The bar Rich took us to was another questionable one just like San Francisco....
The next day we had to see Rich off but first we went down to the beach for a wander and a last meal. We did our bit for charity and got the most expensive crab cakes ever from a dis-used fire truck. We then took Rich to the bus station and tears were shed by all (bar Helen and me).
Afterwards we went and had a look around the centre and did a few last jobs before deciding to treat ourselves to one last helping of ribs. Once again our eyes were too big for our bulging bellies and the plates were left with food on.
The next day we drove to LA, we walked down the 'walk of fame' and chose our pictures carefully unlike some people who I saw getting their picture with the Ricky Martin star.... We were spending our last night in Santa Monica and Rich had advised us to go and watch the sunset from the beach, which we duly did. It was a lovely way to end our America trip as it was a really nice view.
On the last morning we went for one last traditional American breakfast before dropping the car off. Helen can now get rid of the spare tyre she has been diligently carrying around for the past few weeks.
Our trip in America has been excellent although we both agree a bit more like a holiday than travelling with the half decent accommodation and the high costs. Vegas was a definite highlight for all of us and I think we would all like to go back at some point.
