We had a well deserved lay in and got ready for breakfast, we knocked for Jon so that he could join us. We ate at 'Pho 24' restaurant. Jon and Jay both had noodle soup with meatballs and Helen had 'Pho All' which was noodle soup with mixed meat.
After breakfast, we walked to the 'Remnant War Museum'. When we nearly got there, a local guy informed us that the museum was closed for lunch until 1:30pm, he then tried to sell us some tours but we declined the offer. We then decided to browse around the designer shops nearby. After this, we walked to 'Pasteur Street' to look for a boutique store called 'Ipa Nima'. When we found this, we went inside and Helen bought a funky cardholder, a certain percentage of the sale went to the victims of the Japan Earthquake recently.
We eventually got to the War Museum just after 1:30pm. There were various military vehicles, aircraft and weapons outside the museum where we browsed around. Inside the museum, there were three floors, each floor had two exhibitions, some of the exhibitions were very upsetting due to the graphic nature of some of the images. The war crimes and the agent orange exhibitions were particularly distressing to see. There were pictures of children shot dead, corpes of mine victims, people affected by the 'Agent Orange' chemical. One particular display stood out above the rest which was a casing with preserved, malformed babies in it. Outside the museum there was an exact replicate of 'Prisoner of War Camp'. This had actual 'tiger cages' and an actual Guillotine with the basket to hold the decapitated heads, which was still stained from the blood (horrible to see). There were alot of information about the Phu Quoc detention camp where 'Pows' were tortured for information.
Surprisingly enough after viewing all of this, we still managed to get some lunch down us at the famous 'Pho 2000' restaurant. This was where the former president of USA, Bill Clinton tried some Vietnamese noodles whilst touring Vietnam in the year 2000. Jay and Jon had beef stew with noodles and Helen had chicken noodle soup. This was the best noodle soup we have had on this trip so far.
Later in the evening, we booked a half day tour for tomorrow to visit the 'Cu Chi Tunnels'.
We met Caitlin from Colorado who was adopted from Korea. The four of us all went out for drinks at the 'Lavang Cafe', we tried some 'Saigon Blue Label' beer, which was refreshing. We all had a nice relaxing evening.
