We had a lay in for a change. We eventually got up for breakfast, we went to a cafe and both had a freshly made hot baguette. Jay had it with cream cheese and Helen had it with butter. It cost 9000 LAK/70p, very cheap. It was the best baguette we have had, it was soft bread in the inside and crispy on the outside.
We later booked a minibus to take us to Kuang Si Waterfall Park, this cost 50,000 LAK each. It took about an hour to get there, it was a scenic journey through rice fields, mountains and villages. Upon arrival we had 2.5 hours to spend at the falls, we paid 20,000 LAK each to enter the park. As we entered the park, we came across an Asiatic Black Bear Rescue Centre. We stopped to have a look at the bears then walked up to the start of the falls. As we ascended up the waterfall trail, we admired the beauty of it. The clear, cool water cascades gently over limestone formations and gathers into layers of stunning turquoise pools, in which you can swim.
We made our way to the end of the trail where the main waterfall was. We were surprised by the height of the fall but more so, by the volume of water flowing down considering it was the end of the dry season. After seeing the main fall, we made our way back down, stopping off at the swimming areas where we cooled off.
When time was up, we walked to the minibus to get back to our accommodation.
Once back, we asked a local for directions to 'Phu Si Hills'. It was only 10 minutes walk to get there, then a further 10 minutes up the steps of the hill to reach the peak. The views were beautiful, we could see the Mekhong River. We waited for sunset and once set, it was gorgeous, the colours of the sky was a beautiful orange colour. At one stage, the sun was in full view, nice and round before slotting into the clouds like a coin, amazing to watch!
For dinner, we went to a restaurant nearby, Jay had 'Laos sausage' with steamed rice and Helen had 'Fish Sour Curry', this was like a broth which was full of flavour, Helen loved it. The Laos sausage was so tasty, we got an extra portion to share.
In the evening, we went out for drinks, we had Beer Laos on draught to share.
