MONDAY 31ST JANUARY
Oh my gosh, I started my day by smuggling myself out of the hotel at 5.30am, waiting on a dirt road for an old rickety bus, only to miss my connection because I didnt get my brain in gear in time. By the time I got to the border crossing it was hot, humid and I had somehow sat in chewing gum, lesson learnt. On the bus to Granada I chatted to a young boy whos mother was from Quebec and his father was from India so he spoke loads of languages and was a right comic, sooo cute.
Granada was amazing but totally crazy and chaotic! The colourful streets are full of battered taxis, horse and carts, market sellers selling fruit who are all shouting and beeping their horns. The hostel that I stayed at is perfect and gorgeous set around a garden courtyard with a water fountain and lazy hammocks everywhere. Its just a shame that everyone staying there is so unfriendly. I chatted to a guy from Chile was we cooked together over a beer which was nice until we ended up in a heated discussion about how awful cigarette smoke is. Go girl, thats how to make friends...
TUESDAY 1ST FEBRUARY
I thought i´d do the tourist thing today and walk the city so i got up before it got too hot and checked it all out. I am completley enchanted with the place, its so beautiful and and quirky and I would love to live here for a while. I saw some goorgeous churches and am old millitary garrison used to torture people and found some lovely cafes tucked away. I thought that i´d give street food a try and had an enchilada served on a palm leaf for lunch. Hiding away from thee midday sun I found a cool courtyard to sip iced hibiscus tea, life is soo hard...
I met someone cool though, a women who is here on a homestay to learn spanish so she can go on and get involved with a womens cooperative and it got mçe thinking about a conversation i had with a man on a bus last week about volunteering for the VSo or the peace corps. The more time I spend out here, the less i want to get shacked to a permanent day job and the more I want to share my life with people my own age rather than the isolation prison that is Llyswen. On dear, wonder whats going to happen next?
