We started the day on the craziest little bus that had all these little dickey seats that folded out into the isle of the minibus. We must have looked really silly to all the people outside. It was ok though as we were only going down the road to the boat dock where we caught a motorboat over to the Nubian Village. When we arrived at the village we walked up the sand hills to our awaiting camels. We spent the next 15 min riding our camels across the sand, along the Nile and into the heart of the Nubian village.Once at the village (we tipped the camel owners of course!!!) we were welcomed into one of the village houses. It was here that we were introduced to a Nile crocodile, and given the opportunity to try a water pipe and get tattoos.I bought a great Nubian hat from the owner of the house and Rene purchased a wonderful noise making devise among many other things. After that we visited a Nursery School (Can I claim this trip as a tax deduction now?) and had a walk around the village. We caught the boat back and then a group of us travelled into the centre of Aswan to shop at the Markets.Cramming 8 of us into a taxi was hilarious but the driver just kept saying "get in, that's ok, get in".We had to be back at the hotel at 3:30 so as we could get our stuff out of the room so we had some lunch at the hotel café and got ready for our overnight train experience. As the train pulled into the station we thought it looked a bit old but at least we had a first class sleeper cabin (thank God is all I can say). The cabin was small but it was only for a night plus the main thing to worry about was the food (that's what we were told) and we could overcome the cramped conditions by spending our time in the lounge car and drinking our way to Cairo. Wrong!!!The train was now being run by a new company (as of 1st Jan 2010) and they didn't have a liquor license so it was a dry train. We thought it was a joke at first but unfortunately it wasn't.As it turned out we slept reasonably well considering but the last hour of the trip ended up taking 4 hours due to constant stops because of construction works near the tracks. It was very annoying.
