Howdy all! Heath and I are back to being beach bums - Koh Pha Ngan is unbelievably beautiful. We got here late on Sunday after a minibus - bus - ferry ride from Khao Sok and found a buungalow set high on the hill overlooking the ocean in Had Yao, on the North Western part of the island. Had Yao is small and pretty laid back. We got kicked out of our bungalow after one night so we hired a motorbike (to Heath's obvious delight) and spent Monday exploring the island and finding somewhere else to stay. We're now in another bungalow set about 100m back from the beach - it's lovely apart from the fact that new bungalows are being constructed next door. The noise starts early! We climbed a waterfall and rode down to Hat Rin (where the infamous full moon parties are held each month. About 5000 backpackers converge on the place each full moon to get blotted). Hat Rin did nothing for either of us - too crowded and dirty. This morning we rode to a beach that was pegged as a diving mecca. The road was interesting - we opted to walk the last bit as it was really steep and rough. Saw a pommy guy come a cropper on his bike yesterday, he was only on it two minutes before he was off it! Luckily he was ok but it made us doubly careful. We hired some snorkel gear and i did what i like to refer to as 'gumby snorkeling'. I have a big graze on the top of my foot which makes a flipper too painful so i could only use one. The chick in the shop also made me completely paranoid by telling me about how flies like to lay their eggs in open wounds like it - needless to say, Doctor Heath got out his antiseptic cream and plaster and covered it up for me! The snorkelling was pretty nice, we went over to an island just off the coast and back. We're staying here one more night and then heading off to Koh Tao tomorrow. It's a hard life : )
