Okay, so after landing in Bangkok maybe 14 hours later, having had 2 hours sleep the night before due to excitement, i got in a taxi and headed to my hostel, drifting to sleep in the back of the cab as we went along, it was soooo humid, you break into a sweat if you have to lug your stuff around for longer than 5 minutes, yuck!
Feeling very sleepy, very vulnerable and scared i got to my hostel and it was like walking into my worst nightmare! The first thing i see is a giant red plastic sparkling penis on the reception desk, a bell to grab there attention that said 'ring for sex' and all these sex objects and stuff around the room. Not to mention very loud drilling from next door and hammering that would not stop. I could hardly hold a conversation with the reception guy it was so loud. It was pretty deserted, tiny and old guys , no women or a girl my age ish :( , i went to the room and it was just the one dorm in the whole place , me and two guy there and i just thought...errr no thanks! i tried to rest for half hour and i couldnt sleep the drilling was so loud...i have no idea what they had going on in that place but i did not feel safe for my first night and just wanted out, panicked a little but managed to get my money back, grab a cab and get to a hotel around the corner, 850bht! expensive here! i had a room to myself so could lock my things and relax, i took a nap for a few hours and woke up hungry! As i went to 7/11 (a handy supermarket) across the road i saw a white westerner! He was French guy early twenties, he spoke good english i said i was grabbing food and asked if he knew where i could find a cable for my phone, he told me about this mall he was heading to as he was looking for a gift, so we shared a cab there. It was a 7 floor shopping centre but crammed with market stalls you could haggle with, its the weirdest thing! like a street market inside a plush building! I found what i needed and then we went to an upmarket shopping place just to browse, i then needed sleep so went back to my hotel.
The next day myself and Alex (it was his last day before going home) both had nothing planned and so i suggested we take a tuk tuk around to the grand palace! They gave it too us cheaper if we allowed them to stop off at these other places so we did that and saw some amazing temples but got dragged into going to a tailor shop and jewelary place! our tuk tuk driver would say he needed more gasoline so we have to stop here or there but can go in and look in a certain shop while he filled up....yeah yeah! ha
We eventually got to the place we wanted, the Grand Palace but everyone said it was closed until the afternoon, we wanted food first but people were saying no, get food on this boat trip, go there first, the palace is closed- when saying no again we wanted food now, i had a Thai local waggling his fingers in my face saying something about the rich and poor and then storming off.....as we walked to get food we saw that the temple was open! its just a trick to get you to do the tour before....gotta watch these cheeky Thai's!
Then after palace, we found a bar and had a drink ...we wanted to find the rooftop bar but it was closed until later, this one was okay but it was overlooking the grimy waters ha not very nice at all, reminded me of English sea! Bangkok is too bustley for me and very humid! Thank god i was catching my train that night!
We then said goodbye and i later caught my train, i was sat opposite a lovely thai lady who explained to me how to eat a Thai meal the thai way! Later Chris and hannah who i met from the plane, got on and so we had a good catch up, they were with a tour group so i met all these lovely backpackers and we just drunk beer, played cards and went to the 'party carriage' for a dance when everyone started falling asleep, so much fun!
I will tell you all about my time so far in chiang Mai later as I only have one hour on here where it is free! I am much happier here and apart from a few mozzie bites and a cut gained from the jungle im very well! I managed to keep the tribe people away from fixing my cut with paper they spat on to stick to my skin haha I said no! and sorted It myself with anti bac and clean hands! Its all healed now pretty much! Missing you all lots! xxxxxx
