WEEK 2
So I left off last week, right before Annecy.Well we went to Annecy, this beautiful little town in the French Alps (pictured). It is on Lac D'Annecy, the cleanest lake in Europe. It was amazingly clean, crystal blue and you could see so far down.It was set against a background of the French Alps.Jenn, Mike, Claire, Allison, and myself took a boat tour on the lake and it was amazing. From the banks you couldn't see a view of the Alps, but on the boat you could see around a ridge and it was an amazingly gorgeous view of miles and miles of high peaked mountains, cascading one after the other.Pictures can't do the sight justice. It was breathtaking and I enjoyed every minute of that ride. The town was also beautiful.I actually felt like I was at Disney world because it looked so fairytale like, however it was very real.We spent a lot of time walking around Vieux ville, old town.Down the middle, was a pretty river lined with colorful flowers. The water here was also crystal blue.It was lined with different color homes and buildings with an old fortress in the middle. There were tons of cute cafes and an amazing ice cream shop. There were cute stores to buy souvenirs, or small items like berets JIt was very relaxing and people just strolled around.I loved it.I would definitely recommend taking a day trip there if you are ever in France or Switzerland.
Saturday was our first weekend night in Lyon.We went to a bar nearby and watched the France versus Italy soccer match. It was fun to sit in a crowd where everyone lived by how France did in this match. The final score was a tie.I have learned that Lyon has one of the best teams in Europe and I already know how good the French national team is, so it should be exciting.I love soccer so its fun to be immersed in a culture that lives and dies by it.Also, this year, France is hosting the Rugby World Cup! I am so unbelievably excited about that. One, I actually understand Rugby. Two, Lyon will hold some of the matches, so there will be international crowds around, and three its just wicked that we are here while this is going on.I probably would never have heard about it if I was in the US, but is should be great. It gives us the opportunity to go to some Irish pubs or sports bars to watch the games on the big screens. Also, Lyon sets up a big screen in Bellecour so that will definitely be an interesting and fun time.
Sunday was a shock.NOTHING is opened.I knew that most things were closed but I was shocked to find that not even a tabac is open! I had no place to get food or anything. It was just a lazy day as none of us had anything to do.It is nice to be getting to know everyone though.
This was the first week of classes.I don't really have a feel for them yet, since I had to change them around and work out some issues.CEFAM reminds me of high school, how it is all set up with the classes in one building, and the "periods."It throws me off a bit.I am taking International Economics, Business Law, Consumer Behavior, and French.I don't think it will be a tough semester, despite wanting to travel. However, I am disappointed that I have both Friday and Monday classes. At least it's early Friday and late Monday.I was hoping to use those days to take some trips. We shall see how it goes.Until then, au revoir!
