Today cost us a bloody fortune again! We paid the Tuk Tuk driver for the day 10.30 - 5.30$12. The dollar is only 1.5 to teh pound at hte moment and last year it went up to 2.3 so everything is so much more expensive for us now. We went to see teh 3 main temples. You could get a one day pass for $20 which we did or a 3 day or 7 day pass. A couple of hours was well enough for us! Angkor Qat the most famous is an architectural master piece ruined by the Khmer Rouge. It was very detailed VERY VERY VERY detailed! Every pillar, wall, roof etc was pattened and it was very long. then we saw angkor thom again very detailed better to explore and look around, they are currently re-constructing the once library and finally we explored Ta Prohm where they filmed Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie. There were lots of really tall trees growing on top of buildings which was cool to see.Qe then went to teh floating villiage where we got totally ripped off again for |$30 for both of us to go in a semi cirlce in a river around where people lived. We stopped once at a souvineer shop. 10 pound in Cambodia! It was interesting to see the floating school and homes and how these poor families were living on the Tonle Sap lake. The villiage is called Chong Khneas and lives off fishing in the filthy lake. Their homes were sticks and wood. The driver told us he worked everyday for $30 a month and would like a tip! In our guide book it told us they stop off at the eckoEnviroment Centre but he said it was miles away. On the way back we passed it, he just couldnt be aresed topping. It wa a complete waste of money. Heres me listening to Charlottes blogs again telling me to go to the bloody Floating Villiage! Was a good day though as we were looking around in the Tuk Tuk on the way there and back at how the locas live. I've learned the basic conversation in Khmer which no other tourists bother to learn, so again they are pleased when I use this. We've booked our coach to go to Phnom Penh $8 each (cost more to go to one city to another than it did to Cross Countries from Thailand to Cambodia!) We went on the internet before dinner and I have contacted a guy called Geoff at the UK Embassy to visit Michael Connell. And a guy called John Watson who is from the UK in a Jail in Laos in a worse position so I hope it works out that we can see them. Mike also bought "And then they killed my father"a book about the Khmer Rouge which we will be learning all about soon.
