We arrived in Bangkok around 3pm on Tuesday (Oct 5th), the flight was fine, and I actually slept quite well. It was so humid when we got off the plane! We got our visa's, collected our bags and headed out, completely clueless we wondered a bit then decided to get the sky train into the centre to find somewhere to stay. After arriving in the city and being offered help by lots of Thai people we were in a tuk tuk on our way to the tourist office. After an hour and only wanting somewhere to stay we had booked ourselves a tour for the next 2 weeks!
Jumped in another tuk tuk to our hotel and it was lovely, we showered and got an early night. I slept 3 hours and ended up being wide awake for 5, we are really struggling to get used to the time zone!
Wednesday after a lazy morning we headed out and explored, we found a huge shopping mall that has everything under one roof; we spent hours wondering around in awe. Most stuff knock off, 6 floors full of allsorts! It was amazing - We are even planning to come back to Bangkok to go shopping here!We went back to our hotel to shower and grabbed a taxi to Koh San Road (the tourist strip in Bangkok) we found a lovely little restaurant for dinner and it was so cheap! It started to pour down with thunder and lightning so we stayed here a while having a few drinks, we moved on to another bar where we met a group of people - we had a few buckets on the street, went to a karaoke bar then when we were all pretty drunk we went to a ping pong show (I won't share the details!!) Joe and I headed back to our hotel about 5am and ended up ordering a McDonalds!! Sat in bed at 5.30am eating McDonalds!!
Thursday we were a little delicate but we had things to sort out. Joe had researched the hotels that the tourist office had put us in for when we got to Chiang Mai and the reviews were terrible so we went back and asked to be moved to another. The guy didn't seem too happy about it but he changed it! We wondered around then decided to go to the sky tower for sunset.
Baiyoke Tower is Thailand's tallest building. It contains the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, the tallest hotel in Southeast Asia, and the fourth-tallest all-hotel structure in the world.
The building is 304 m (997 ft) tall, or 328 m (1,076 ft) tall with the antenna included. It has 85 floors, with a public observatory on the 77th floor, a bar called "Roof Top Bar & Music Lounge" on the 83rd floor, a 360-degree revolving roof deck on the 84th floor and the hotel offers 673 guest rooms. Construction on the building ended in 1997, with the antenna being added two years later.
We arrived and went up the 77 floors in a lift so smoothly, the view was amazing - it was a shame it was a big smoggy as you can usually see the gulf of Thailand. We went up on to the 83rdfloor where there was a revolving deck we watched the sun go down and all the lights across Bangkok come on, the queues of traffic was an amazing sight! We then went down a floor to the sky bar where we had a cocktail which came free with our ticket - all for about £10. After we wondered through the markets and headed back to our hotel to have dinner, pack and sleep!
